Yorkshire League was formed in 1965 and ran until 1975.
The All-Yorkshire League run events on the first Sunday of the month. These were held at different tracks throughout the Yorkshire area.
Founded by Mr A Sykes (Chairman)and Mr G Booth (Secretary). On January 12th 1966 a 2nd meeting was held in the Black Bull Hotel Brighouse, and an executive committee was formed. Vice-Chairman Mr E Kelly (Aire Valley Wrc), Treasurer Mrs M Scott (Halifax Wrc). Mr T Delaney (Dewsbury Wrc) Mr H Metcalf (Leeds WRC) Mr V Collins (Kirkheaton Wrc), Mr F Manchester (Pennine Wrc). Barnsley Wrc was not represented at this meeting. The Black Bull became the official Head Quarters of the Yorkshire League.
The first League fixture was held at Kirkheaton Wrc on 2nd January 1966. Victory went to Halifax Wrc. The Halifax Dogs won 5 of the 12 heats. In the run-off to decide the outright winners Pocahontas (Halifax) beat Andy Capp (Halifax) with Snowball (Kirkheaton) in third place. 67 Dogs took part in the event. Given that only the Yorkshire Clubs could enter it was a good turnout for the first leg of the 1966 season.
The Yorkshire League in the early years flourished. Some exciting well-supported Whippet Racing events were held in and around the Yorkshire Clubs. These are Dewsbury Wrc, Aire Valley Wrc, Ripon Wrc, Kirkheaton Wrc, Queensbury Wrc, Wakefield Wrc, Colnebridge Wrc, Walton Miners Wrc and Pennine Wrc.
During the short life of the Yorkshire League Committee positions changed those who took office over this time. Martin Pell (Secretary), Jack Hawks (Chairman), Keith Robinson ( Vice-Chairman) John Redfearn ( Treasurer) and Janet Pell all worked hard to give the Yorkshire area sound quality and varied racing events.
Sadly the last Annual General Meeting was held on 27th November 1975 in the Black Bull and only three people turned up to the meeting. Those present were Mr J Alderson (Chairman) Mrs P Wilson (Secretary) Mr H Brook (Colnebridge Wrc). Due to a lack of interest, the Yorkshire League was closed.
