The British Whippet Racing Association was formed on Saturday 3rd June 1967 at a meeting held in the Golden Lion Hotel, Highroad Well, Halifax.
Representatives in attendance were North East: Representatives Mr G Mason (Easington Lane) and Mr T Holloway (Bolden Colliery). North West: Mr J Marsden (Ulverston). Yorkshire: Mr G Booth and Mr T Bray; Midlands: Mr E Coleman (Sedgebrook); South: Mrs C Francis. Travelling as companions but taking no part in the meeting were Mr & Mrs Mark Allsopp (Midlands) and Mr W Todd (North East)
The election of the first officers was taken at this meeting. Chairman Mr E Coleman, Secretary Mr G Mason, Treasurer Mrs M Scott and Registrar Mr G Booth.
Membership Fees opened in October 1967 to run from December 1968. Clubs paid £1.00, Dog registration 5/- for life, Personal Membership 5/- paid annually. Dog transfer 2/6d in old money.
The first weight and height restrictions were also agreed upon. 1. Height Limit 21 inches. 2. Weight Limit 35lb. At a later meeting, this was reduced to 32lb.
