Stars of the Yorkshire League

The Yorkshire League 1965-1975.

Dewsbury Wrc and Aire Valley Wrc Clubs were a force to be reckoned with during this era.  Dewsbury Wrc held the honour of achieving Yorkshire League Champions no less than three times in a row.

It was no surprise they boosted such a strong team.  Famous names included Rch Blue Cloud, Rch Blue Max, Little Bess, Rch Dolly Blue, Petra, Smoke Ring, Black Jack, Fawn Lady to name but a few.

The Dewsbury Team also included the white and fawn flying machine RCh Snowflake. Bred by D Sanderson of Kirkheaton in August 1966, Rch Snowflake was bred from the famous Stud Dog  Bilko to another pedigree bitch called Snowball.

Mr. Arthur Ellis of Dewsbury Wrc purchased Snowflake as a pup. Schooling her and the litter brother White Wings at the Sands Lane playing fields track.  Rch Snowflake was a lightweight 23lb bitch but size did not matter to her. Rch Snowflake soon became Scratch Champion at a very young age competing in the up to 32lb Scratch racing at both Dewsbury Wrc and Kirkheaton Wrc.

Rch Snowflake was an incredible bitch who entered 6 Open meetings during her reign at the Hillstown Wrc winning 5 out of 6 and was runner-up in the sixth. Went on to Win the BWRA 24lb Rch Champion title in 1968. Overall winning in excess of 50 plus Opens including breaking track records on more than one track. Rch Snowflake competed with some of the very best around at the time. These included Little Tipsy, Wishy Was, Rch Blackie, Rch Little Lucy.

Spectators enjoyed fantastic racing in the Yorkshire League when Rch Snowflakes‘ name was entered on the program.
