Yorkshire League<\/strong> was formed in 1965 and ran until 1975.<\/strong><\/p>

The All-Yorkshire League<\/strong> run events on the first<\/strong> Sunday<\/strong> of the month. These were held at different tracks throughout the Yorkshire area.<\/p>

Founded by <\/strong>Mr A<\/strong> Sykes <\/strong>(Chairman)and Mr G Booth<\/strong> (Secretary). On January 12th 1966<\/strong> a 2nd meeting was held in the Black Bull<\/strong> Hotel<\/strong> Brighouse, and an executive committee was formed. Vice-Chairman Mr\u00a0E\u00a0Kelly<\/strong> (Aire Valley Wrc), Treasurer Mrs M Scott<\/strong> (Halifax Wrc). Mr T Delaney<\/strong> (Dewsbury Wrc) Mr H Metcalf<\/strong> (Leeds WRC) Mr V<\/strong> Collins<\/strong> (Kirkheaton Wrc), Mr<\/strong> F Manchester<\/strong> (Pennine Wrc). Barnsley Wrc<\/strong> was not represented at this meeting. The Black Bull<\/strong> became the official Head Quarters of the Yorkshire League<\/strong>.<\/p>

The first Leagu<\/strong>e fixture was held at Kirkheaton Wrc<\/strong> on 2nd January 1966<\/strong>.\u00a0 Victory went to Halifax Wrc<\/strong>. The Halifax Dogs won 5<\/strong> of the 12<\/strong> heats<\/strong>. In the run-off to decide the outright winners Pocahontas<\/strong> (Halifax) beat Andy Capp<\/strong> (Halifax) with Snowball<\/strong> (Kirkheaton) in third place. 67 Dogs<\/strong> took part in the event. Given that only the Yorkshire Clubs could enter it was a good turnout for the first leg of the 1966 season<\/strong>.<\/p>

The Yorkshire League<\/strong> in the early years flourished. Some exciting well-supported Whippet Racing events were held in and around the Yorkshire Clubs. These are Dewsbury<\/strong> Wrc, Aire Valley <\/strong>Wrc, Ripon<\/strong>\u00a0Wrc, Kirkheaton<\/strong> Wrc, Queensbury<\/strong> Wrc, Wakefield<\/strong> Wrc, Colnebridge<\/strong> Wrc, Walton<\/strong> Miners<\/strong> Wrc and Pennine<\/strong> Wrc.<\/p>

During the short life of the Yorkshire League<\/strong> Committee positions changed those who took office over this time. Martin Pell<\/strong> (Secretary), Jack Hawks<\/strong> (Chairman), Keith Robinson<\/strong> ( Vice-Chairman) John Redfearn<\/strong> ( Treasurer) and Janet Pell<\/strong> all worked hard to give the Yorkshire area<\/strong> sound quality and varied racing events.<\/p>

Sadly<\/strong> the last Annual General<\/strong> Meeting<\/strong> was held on 27th November 1975<\/strong> in the Black Bull<\/strong> and only three people turned up to the meeting. Those present were\u00a0 Mr J Alderson<\/strong> (Chairman) Mrs P Wilson<\/strong> (Secretary) Mr<\/strong> H Brook<\/strong> (Colnebridge Wrc). Due to a lack of interest, the Yorkshire League<\/strong> was closed.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
